Beverly Boswell: Worst of the week

State Representative Beverly Boswell (R-Dare) gives us a great example of why people hate politicians. The little known legislator managed get two bad news stories in one week. That’s quite an accomplishment. In the first instance, she tried to politicize the National Walkout movement in a ham-handed attempt at critiquing a school and its students. In the second, she got caught lying on her resume. Those offenses illustrate a lack of judgment that should give voters pause in November.

First, Boswell criticized a school that wasn’t even in her district for having an assembly instead of allowing students to walk out of class to draw attention to mass shootings in schools. Boswell criticized Dave Ebert, the leader of a charter school in Roxboro, more than two hour’s drive from her district, for forcing “students to participate in the walkout.” He didn’t. He just had an assembly in the gym to honor the victims of the shooting. Anybody who didn’t want to participate had the option of sitting it out.

Boswell, though, was sure she had an issue to politicize. She posted her account of the exchange on Facebook, saying she asked Ebert, “So the students that were eating tide pods last week run your school this week?” Boy, is she clever! Insulting high school students is just what a legislator should be doing.

That wasn’t the end of Boswell’s week in the news, though. It turns out, she’s been touting herself as “registered nurse” when she’s not. Last I checked, that’s called lying.

The state Board of Nursing called Boswell out and asked her to remove the claim from her web site and Facebook page. Board spokesman David Kalbacker told the N&O, “Rep. Boswell is not a licensed nurse nor has she ever been a licensed nurse.”

Boswell represents what people hate about politicians. She distorted an issue that she thought would score her political points, she made broad generalizations by insulting an entire segment of the population, and she lied about her qualifications. Fortunately, she got caught in her own little web of distortions. In November, maybe we can be done with her altogether.

Shameful lack of personal integrity and honesty. She should resign immediately. She would be terminated for such fraud in the private sector, and the public sector for that matter. What a disgraceful human.

OMG, you think she’s a devout Christian? We’ve got to support candidates who will help reduce the influence of these religious fanatics. Vote DEMOCRAT!
