Losing faith

Yesterday, a Washington Post/ABC News poll showed Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 15 points. A Fox News poll has Trump trailing by eight. Given the state of the nation, those numbers make sense.

The Trump administration failed to enact a national program to combat the coronavirus and instead punted to the states, leaving more than 140,000 dead so far. Our borders are closed with all of Europe, Canada and, now, the Bahamas because of our failed response. As the nation reached a reckoning  point on race relations, Trump doubled down on his appeal to white supremacy. As protests over police brutality reach a breaking point, he’s unleashed government goons dressed in combat fatigues on the nation’s cities. They are literally scooping people off the streets and hauling them off in vans, like something out of a banana Republic.

According to the Fox News poll, only 40% of Americans believe Trump has “the judgment to serve effectively as president” while 53% believe he does not. Only 43% believe he has  “the mental soundness to serve effectively as president” while 51% believe he does not. In other words, a majority of people believe Trump is mentally incompetent to be President of the Untied of the United States.

In addition, people don’t trust him to handle the most pressing issues of the day. According the Washington Poll/ABC poll, they believe Biden could do a better job of handling the coronavirus by a 20 point margin. They also believe Joe Biden is better on crime and safety by nine points, despite Trumps attempt to focus the campaign on law and order. On race relations, they favor Biden by a whopping 25 points. The economy is the only issue where Trump leads Biden, and that’s only be two points and statistically insignificant.

On personal traits, Biden crushes Trump in the WaPo/ABC poll. By 14 points, voters think Biden is more trustworthy and honest. By 17, Biden “better understands the problems of people like you.” By 24, Biden “has the better personality and temperament to serve as president.” And also by 24, Biden “would do more to unite Americans rather than divide them.”

The picture in the poll is one of a country losing faith and confidence in its leader. There’s little doubt that the polls will tighten up between now and November. Events could change these numbers altogether. However, Trump’s temperament has become a serious liability. Outside of his base, he has lost trust of most Americans. They do not believe he is up to dealing with the pressing problems of the day.  Over the past month, he has lost significant support in the one place he had an advantage, the economy. He seems to be betting on law and order to restore support but even there, Biden has an advantage. For Democrats, November can’t come soon enough.

I go shopping and constantly find people of all ages walking around not following Governor Cooper’s directive of masks and social distance. I can not blame Governor Cooper of President Trump for the spike of NC covid. As for losing faith, I still remember failures of the Obamacare, and the worst economic recovery ever and how quickly and well the economy recovered under a Trump administration. The only historic promise of socialism is poverty. Socialism isn’t something a reasonable thinking person can have faith in.

One example of socialism – Those roads and highways you drive on every single day are completely taxpayer funded. President Eisenhower was inspired by Germany’s autobahn and implemented the idea right here in America. That’s right, a Republican president created our taxpayer funded, national highway system. This was a different time, before the Republican party came down with a vicious case of rabies that never went away.
I am a Socialist because I like the Military, Police, Fire Dept, Library, Post Office, Medicare, Social Security, Highways/Roads, Polio Vaccine, etc.

America at its founding always agreed to pay for military, police, fire dept., library post office roads of course we had control over these expenses. Ill-conceived programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are socialist programs with no controls explaining why they are always going broke. I remember when a high school graduate could marry buy a home his wife stayed home with the children that period ended with LBJ with his war on poverty. I don’t trust either party socialist are in both. America has had creeping socialism forever and most people don’t understand the guidance of the movement. The current cancel culture movement can be traced to Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci. He reasoned the only explanation the workers were not overthrowing governments and establishing Marxist states was culture. A German Marxist group forced to leave because of anti communist Hitler “The Frankfurt School” settled in America and has been very active. Their cultural revolution ideas were:
!. the creation of racial offences
        2. Continual change to create confusion
        3. the teaching of sex and homosexuality to children
        4. undermining of schools and teachers authority
        5. huge immigration to destroy national identity
        6. promotion of heavy drinking
        7. emptying churches
        8. an unreliable legal system with bias against the victims of crime
        9. dependency on state or state benefits
        10. control and dumbing down of media
        11. encouraging the breakdown of the family

Current events point to the left is no longer patient with creeping socialism, they are reaching for the brass ring (full Marxist America) free speech is now gone, just wearing a maga hat will get you beat up, opposing Marxist thoughts will not be accepted in our universities. I don’t have time to do this, I don’t think America as we knew it will last much longer.

What a crock. Obama fixed the mess Bush created and Biden will have to do the same with Trump’s fiasco. Every Republican administration since 1900 resulted in a recession.

No accident Bush’s, Clinton’s and Obama’s are friends. As an independent many republicans are secret democrats. Obama care sucks Obama a big eared no nothing

        • cocodog

It is fairly obvious from your one liners that you are not an independence or Democrat. I believe it would be safe to say you are a Trump supporting republican who believes themselves to be left out therefore, chooses to substitute ignorance for comprehension. The clue lay in your name calling. Did you know Obama Care and ACA are one in the same thing? And yes, the ACA was designed to help folks who may feel left out of the American experience.
