I can’t wait to watch Pat McCrory lose again. McCrory is on twitter making asinine statements and parroting childish right-wing talking points. While he might not be as smart as Thom Tillis, he has just as little substance. I don’t know what’s wrong with Charlotte Republicans. They will say anything to get elected. 

Apparently, Charlotte, like cities across the country, passed a long-term plan to phase out zoning regulations and allow more multi-family housing across the city. It’s an attempt to increase affordable housing, make cities more walkable, and reduce some infrastructure costs. The measure is usually supported by a broad coalition that includes developers and affordable housing advocates. In Minneapolis, another city that passed a similar plan, the opponents were mostly limo liberals who lived in posh neighborhoods on the outskirts of town.  

In response to Charlotte’s move, McCrory tweeted, “The left-wing Mayor and City Council in Charlotte just passed a plan to eliminate single-family zoning in our neighborhoods. The liberals are not kidding…they want to destroy your quality of life, all using the fake narrative of social justice!” He followed up with, “This is Biden-Harris Nanny State radicalism coming to a North Carolina town near you soon.” 

The two tweets combined are so stupid I could spit. The Charlotte City Council is eliminating government restrictions, not imposing them. McCrory clearly is too dim to understand the meaning of “Nanny State.” He’s just spewing words that he believes will fire up the Trumpist base.  

Let me interpret McCrory’s tweet for you. “Hey, White people! The Charlotte Mayor and City Council are going to let poor brown people move into your neighborhood!” It’s all the coded bullshit we’ve been hearing from Republicans my entire life. It’s as clear a dog whistle as you’ll get. 

Pat McCrory is a trash politician. He wouldn’t know a core value if it hit him on the head. He got elected as a business friendly moderate who pledged to work across the aisle. He got rolled by the right-wingers who took control of the General Assembly and immediately changed his spots. He left office as a failed governor who never learned how Raleigh works and became a talk radio show host trying to trade his button-down personae for one of a fire-breathing populist. 

Pat McCrory is a soulless politician who will say anything for votes. He lacks any core values other than self-promotion. Without Trump’s endorsement, McCrory sees his path to victory as picking off as much support as possible from the White supremacist wing of the GOP while trying to hold the old country club establishment. I hope he gets crushed.
