Instead of reading my blog today, I urge all of our readers to turn to the newspapers and news shows. At the state level, the N&O and Charlotte Observer take state government to task for losing over $1 billion in tax revenue through loopholes run amok. Instead of fixing the broken part of our tax code, Republicans in the legislature are focused on ideological measures that would eliminate the personal and corporate income taxes  and repeal the estate tax on millionaires, continuing to shift the state’s tax burden onto middle-class families.

Rob Christensen, the state’s top political reporter, lays bare how Republican proposals will further harm our rural communities and small towns, despite the fact that these  regions are hurting most.

The N&O editorial calls out the legislature for rejecting measures that could help create jobs while simultaneously implementing policies that harm the unemployed and those most hurt in the recession.

Finally, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall told the truth on the GOP when she said they have made our state a national laughing stock.

I know, I know. You folks in the tinfoil hat caucus will scream liberal media bias. But instead of pointing fingers, counter the arguments. Show us a jobs plan. Tell us what you are going to do to stop the population drain from our rural counties. Introduce a tax plan that is fair and helps, not burdens, North Carolina’s middle class. Finally, rein in your crazy caucus so we stop showing up in national media as the butt of jokes.
