The Grahams in decline

Some insights are timeless. Karl Marx spoke for the ages saying “history repeats itself first as tragedy, second as farce.” So it is with Billy Graham.

The Reverend’s clownish son may have reinforced impressions of his father as a Falwell clone. In fact, Billy preached a broadly uplifting and humane gospel. He once said “morality goes beyond sex to human freedom and social justice.” In the social sphere, he had brushes with nobility. An adviser to Dr. King, a foe of Apartheid, he could have left a proud legacy.

But his career was one of missed opportunities. Although a segregation critic, he lacked the courage for a “Graham-King crusade.” His ego likewise drew him to Richard Nixon, his support for whom Graham regretted. It came to a head in 2012 when, ending his reticence, he endorsed Amendment 1. Even for a secularist, it was sad to see.

Little Franklin inspires no such sympathy. From the start, he’s been a media whore and a megalomaniac. The brat’s campaign for marriage discrimination was pathetic, almost laughable had it not been so effective. Thus, his newfound “crush” on Europe’s most dangerous man isn’t so much an outrage as yet another joke.

Explain to me, exactly, when your god says in one of the few words actually quoted to him, “It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”; or when he meticulously takes a whip and drives those profaning his father’s temple with filthy lucre…or when he says, “Give the government what belongs to the government and God to God” that they can have the insane and monstrous beliefs they do?

And even after all that; “It is better that you just died instead of harming a child”…Sandyhook? Food Stamps? Education Cuts?

These people count ‘charity’ as a donation to their local preacher’s megamansion and yet howl to the moon at the slightest charity from society.

I don’t know what you call those people but followers of Christ? The imagination strains to conceive it.

The evangelical Christians have lost the knowlege of Christ and Christianity. Jesus never preached hatred intolerance and bigotry. The Evangelicals Christians are everything Jesus hated.

These charlatans are a plague on humanity.

Frankly Franklin, Christianity may finally found it’s demise in the religious right and you. Can’t happen too soon IMHO. The so-called ‘faithful’ christians are so pusillanimous. Similar to Dems today running from HCR and ACA, the ‘faithful’ refuse to take on Franklin, Huchabee, Perkins, Buchanan etc.

I’m 70 and was a”Christian” until 10 years ago when I saw the light. Christianity will get no more Time, Treasure or Talent from me, thankyou.
