As my Daddy, Duplin County farmer, born and bred, used to say, “he’s showing his ass.” It’s not a good look, and, hopefully, the good folks of NC are getting tired of these showboating clowns who are turning the state into a laughingstock.
Phil Sr had ample opportunities to run for statewide or federal office and didn't. (I know the joke. He didn't want the demotion or the pay cut.) Instead, he assumed he would effectively have lifetime tenure as state Senate leader, never imaging his own constituents would grow tired of him. Wow. Reality bites.
If he somehow cheats his way to another term, what a gift for North Carolina Democrats this fall, if they use it wisely.
Sadly Republicans control most of the state and have for some time now. I haven’t seen a plan nor a set of platform to policies from the democrats. There’s no better opportunity to put young democrats on the ballot.

Berger go out with grace? Those in power go out with a fight
Berger going out with grace is an oxymoron.
It seems like a major difference in political party philosophy is:
Democrats want to win elections to gain political power.
Republicans want to gain political power and don’t give a damn how they attain it or if their constituents want them.
