Granted, David Nir is tlaking about House reaches here, but rewind a few months and consider the Senate primary here. Cooper didn’t just smoke the field in his primary, she beat *every candidate companies in BOTH primaries*, and it wasn’t close. Granted, that’s a long time ago, and the landscape has shifted, but Whatley’s seems like the kind of guy that as people get to know him they like him LESS not more. The company he keeps isn’t helping him any either, but honestly I’m not convinced that’s the driving force behind him sucking. He’s beating the MAGA drum, and people everywhere are bored of hearing it. And if that rally in WNC last week with an encore by JD after DJT bombed is any indication, not only is Don Davis’s seat safe, there are a few winnable red-to-blue races too.
And now that Anderson Clayton has given every legislative district an option by fielding a candidate in all 170 districts, even the NCGA could be in play. We won’t win all 170 districts, but I’ll be interested in seeing how much difference it makes just giving gpeople a choice for a change. And there couldn’t be a better cycle to find out.

Politics gets hard when the fight is no longer about policy, but survival. When a president starts losing public support, as is happening now, Republican members of Congress face a simple but painful choice: stay loyal or break away. Either path carries a cost. Their decision may shape not only their own futures, but the future of their party.
There is also a larger question. Elected officials are supposed to serve the people who put them in office, not the party. When a party loses control of itself, that duty becomes even more important.
The MAGA GOP are the same power mad elitists they have always been, the party of corporations, billionaires and the wealthy business class and in spite of their faux populism, they just don't bother trying to hide it anymore. Their Project 2025 with it's 'unitary executive' branch is wildly unconstitutional. Clearly the founders intended to prevent a unitary executive, not create one. No Kings!
My advice: never vote for a Republican, thinking he/she will put a check on Trump. They have proven themselves useless over two years. No reason to give them another chance.
I think it was Bill Clinton's campaign that had the slogan "It's the economy, stupid". Yeah, people vote with their wallets. And yeah, it looks like a wave year for Democrats, but it will be muted by gerrymandering. In decades past this would be a 50+ seat gain for the Blue team; this year 15-20. ..... maybe.
And it is scary that politicians, including internationally, have learned that playing with oil supplies is a sure way to manipulate the less informed American voter into becoming single issue voters. Diesel prices apparently trump racism.
