I'd like to start a movement among political commentators such as yourself: stop referring to the Republican Party as "GOP". I realize it's a convenient abbreviation, but it belies an important difference. This isn't the same old party, and if there was ever anything grand about it there sure isn't now.

Personally, I like using GQP anywhere I would use GOP.

The correct argument against the voucher scam is “stealing public school money and giving it to wealthy parents.” I don’t like my tax dollars used for handouts to wealthy families.

It’s STILL to provide a tax break for rich people, only now they’re trying to pay for those tax breaks by taking the money from our most vulnerable citizens.

But more to the point, Katie Britt is… full of shit.

Democrats may have written the language that became the ACA, but the framework for it was designed by the Heritage Foundation. That’s right, the same folks who brought you Project 2025 gave us Obamacare. It was always a devil’s bargain but it was the best we were going to get as long as there was a filibuster (yes, Dems had a 60-vote majority… for a whole 17 days).

So when you take one side who has as its goal making health care accessible to more of our poorest, and run it up against another side whose goal is to make more money for their wealthy patrons, and then remove the actual cost savings from the result, you get Obamacare. Which is precisely why every other industrialized nation in the WORLD offers single-payer insurance to everybody. You aren’t required to USE it, but it’s THERE.

And of course this behavior is quite consistent with a bit, albeit only 10%, government ownership of public corporations.

Congruent with a bit of cognitive dissonance perhaps?

“If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was the necessary Dem response to Republican-MAGA Party bullshit. We have private insurance and we never get to "keep" our doctor. Every time we get used to a PCP they move to another of the corporation's offices, or take medical leave, or otherwise end up no longer being our PCP. We have to pick a new PCP based on their photograph and bio on a webpage, and there is never any "handover" from this one to that one. All of the rhetoric on healthcare in the USA is propaganda in favor of this or that special interest.

Separate but unequal. In NC our Republican majority wanted to use tax dollars collected from the wealthy to help their children's schools
