Encouraging news — The tide is clearly shifting. North Carolina, once a stronghold of support, seems to be rethinking things. The Medicaid expansion in December 2023 opened the door for more North Carolinians to receive essential care, and by May 2025, enrollment surged to approximately 3.1 million. That includes low-income adults, children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. In some counties, nearly 1 in 3 residents are now covered. Apparently, when policies hit close to home, perspectives can change.

Thomas remember: people vote with their pocketbooks. But taking away Medicaid support from rural hospitals doesn’t help the GOP. See The NY Times article on the closing of Martin General Hospital as exhibit 1

I'll add to your Lincoln quote regarding a segment of the voters being foolable all the time two other quotes that are apt, and prescient: One, attributed to Lyndon Johnson "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man (MAGA's illegals, foreigners etc), he won't notice you are picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Here in Moore County, they've handed over their wallets. The other adage Trump grew up with as it is part of the Greater New York business vernacular, and was what we New Yorkers were thinking as we watched red state election results come in in 2016: P. T. Barnum's "there's a sucker born every minute."

Good news, indeed, Mr. Mills. Folks in other red states, especially wheat growers in Kansas, are also awakening to the reality of Trump.
