Not sure we are going to make it to the next election. Don't think we can allow this nonsense to happen for another 15 months. The coequal branches of government are not working as they were designed by our founders.

"The question is whether they ever really held political principles "

That would be a 'no'.

If ever there was a living, walking eample of the old saw, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely", this crew is it.

We can’t fix it; the rot is now too embedded in the system. We need a leader of people who can organize a “Free America” mass movement to vote against everyone who supports Trumpism, and eventually organize it into a true political party.

Egomaniacs need not apply.

From the looks of him, natural causes may relieve us of his presence. One can only hope.

There is little doubt the Republican Party has drifted from its founding commitments to free markets, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. It is now willing to jump on board with hero worship of an aging narcissist, restriction of voter access, and excusing alley cat morality —all to secure massive tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. However, this mind set has produced lower than normal unpopularity. Trump is at 38 % and his presumed successor, JD Vance is hovering around 40 %. Historically, these figures do not create wins.

Thomas I remember well the Speaker Ban Law, Jesse "Jeremiah Jubilation Day Helms" and the man who coined that phrase, "Cousin Chub" The issue is most folks are trying to live their daily lives and are NOT paying attention to what's happening in Washington. When Trump's actions affect their wallets they will suddenly be "woke" Perhaps the Lord will hear our collective prayer and Donald Trump will die of natural causes soon "Call your next case." Thomas, it's good to have you back :-)

Folks, don't forget the significant shift from of southern Dems (sunburned of back of neck) to the Republican Party here in NC following Jesse's Senate win in '72 ... and Jesse's radically right 6:25PM editorials on WRAL back in the day of three and a half (PBS) TV news networks (before cell phones). Quite unpleasant as I recall.

Given the successful gerrymandering of the past 12 years, the rural root of our NC Legislature remains in generational family stories and attitudes only slightly modified over the past 4 or so generations. True, there has been considerable demographic change in Wake and Mecklenburg, and a bit in the counties surrounding them over the past 50 years, but we still remain a very "rural" state. After all, we vote for folks with whom we're comfortable, and change can be threatening.

Mike -be interesting to sit, chat, drink some coffee, and get a better understanding of "the last 9 years of tyranny" sometime. I'll cop for the first pot :-). Siler City, the Rabbit?

I don't recall seeing any article that you penned raising alarm bells about the last 9 yrs of tyranny. Then, and only then will I even consider your opinions to.be any more than mere rhetoric.

Mea culpa, you called it starting in 2013 that the NCGOP was the model for the nation, and that power was the lodestar of their actions. I thought it was policy, and since 2015 have kept being shown how wrong I was.
