WOW - This Anderson Clayton is wonderful! Travis Mills is SO WRONG WITH HIS “Get back to church” argument. I’m originally from The UK but been based/living in NC since 2003. I am an Independent as I believe that the DNC badly let us all down in 2016 and 2024. I will increase my protesting with wonderful people of CLT Indivisibility & continue my personal campaign to never allow Jan 6th insurrection to be whitewashed & Trump & co-conspirators to go to jail.
I think Trump has a hard floor of 32-35% that he won't go below no matter what he does. The fact that he's below that on some narrow specifics suggests it may be possible to break through, but the progress will be hard, and it will be slow. But Trump won the young white non-college educated vote in 2024, which suggests that not all of those 35% are the Triple-Trumpers. A lot of those young voters weren't even old enough to vote in 2016. And based on registrations, Independents here in NC are ahead of both parties. That in itself is informative, because it means people like me are fed up with both parties. The problem is that there's not really a viable third option. Now if you look at who turned out in the last election? About a third were no-shows. Anybody see a correlation there?
As for religion, the only thing more divisive than politics is religion (which I think you just demonstrated right here in this podcast). And if your plan is to return to the pre-Trump America, you might be able to do that hanging out on Sunday morning. Not gonna argue that point. The point I *will* argue is that the LAST thing we need is to return to status quo ante. That's how we GOT here in the first place. And churches have *always* been for sale. Not "on the market" in a real estate sense, but for sale nonetheless.
If Berger wants to get a shot in the arm, maybe start by passing a budget. He's being beaten over the head with that on a daily basis. But as Napoleon astutely observed, "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake".
But don't you know that FEMA's gonna have Western NC all fixed up very, very quickly and powerfully? The plan will be out in about 2 weeks.
And Jeff Jackson has his own substack. Just sayin'.

I think it is naive to consider the church as the way to rebuild civic institutions. Their record over the past decade has forever squandered their legitimacy
