The ruthlessness of Lee Atwater still lives in the soul-less Republican campaign machinery. Joe Biden watched Mike Dukakis lose to it. And, if the past few days are any indication, Biden appears determined to call out the dishonesty and bigotry prevalent in the Trump playbook. If he continues to do so, it’ll still be up to voters to reject the ugliness overwhelmingly in November.

Tell it Thomas! Like you I saw the most radical old conservative Democrats switch to Republican along with Jesse and Strom. It was all about race then and it is now. They just shifted from black to Latino.

In the footsteps of prominent Republicans like Marko Rubio and Bobby Jindal, Ms. Britt took center stage. Despite her legal background, her delivery was more akin to a high schooler running for student council president. Her speech was disorganized and incoherent, interspersed with personal accounts of women’s abuse. These narratives, though they might be dismissed as rumors in a court of law, were aimed at Joe Biden. The implication was that Joe was somehow involved in these deplorable actions. The effectiveness of her approach is dubious, as it seemed to only lead to an uncomfortable moment on live TV. However, after Joe’s sincere and thorough presentation, her segment did offer a bit of comic relief. Furthermore, her performance inadvertently provided plenty of fodder for late-night comedy shows like Saturday Night Live.

• It’s important to note that these Republicans are highly educated. Their decision to communicate in this way with their fellow party members suggests a perception of them as immature and irrational. This is both condescending and disrespectful. One day, they will understand the fundamental concept that treating your constituents with respect is key to winning elections.

The cultivation of hate—wearying. No low too low—ad nauseam. Requires strategic self monitoring and daily practice to “be at ease” in such climate & still maintain rightful engagement. And not be sickened & disgusted most days. Write on.

I'd love to have an STD or Stop the GOP bumper sticker on my car, but there are too many crazies among us now days that think free speech is only for them. And vandalism is OK for them... I see Trumpists vehicles daily and am sad but would never do such a thing.

Would like to see media become more vocal on this issue. Dems need to aggressively call out these provocateurs. The exposure of Senator Britt's lies was very effective, but it wasn't MSM that exposed this, they were content to stand and watch.

It’s always the “other” with the GOP. The just switch the other to whatever is convenient.
