Leaders who abuse power or play favorites teach everyone beneath them to do the same. The rot doesn’t stay at the top. It runs downhill and poisons the whole outfit. It isn’t faith, or virtue, or any kind of honest work. It isn’t democracy or due process or a fair shake for anyone. It’s decay. And if we mean to stop it before it breaks the country for good, we have to show up in the midterms and fight it at the ballot box.
And this seems, perhaps, a problem for NC as well. "Citizens United" gives corps with deep pockets, as well as home grown folk with "excess" gelt, motivation to diddle with our Legislature. 'Course we forget how our current majorities in Raleigh gained instruction from our Dem leadership last century - just in a cruder manner - bags of cash passed in bathrooms - or something like that? Wish you'd give us a bit of oversight on our 9th (gerrymandered) District - just next door to your 4th. Major Richard Ojeda would provide a welcome relief from Mister Hudson. Yep, a big lift, given pieces of 9 counties in the last gerry, but worth the effort. And who knows what the next district redrawing might look like? :-)
UNC's problems this decade, exemplified most recently by athletics issues, which stems from Legislature interference, with selection of it president, bball stadium relocation, Belichik and Malone hiring process, now the GM being suspended.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Nothing would please me more than to have their own voters so mad at them they actually decide to trust a Democrat for a change. Republicans have screwed around with everything they could get their dirty paws on and made them terrible. This is why we’ve watched beach houses wash into the Atlantic. Republicans demanded all references to sea legal rise be omitted from environmental impact studies. That was an early move. Then they got into the state university system and turned that on its head. Precision gerrymandering? Got that down to an AI science now. Partisan judicial elections; check. Rampant school voucher schemes and charter schools gutting what was once a great public school system; done. It’s easy for voters to lose count of all the damage that republicans have done since their hostile takeover in 2010 but by now it should be pretty obvious. It’s time to show them the door.
Trump is the head of the American branch of a transnational crime syndicate run by Putin and likely Simon Mogilevich, the head of the Russian mob with huge influence in many countries, including the US. The Epstein/Maxwell network was and is connected to Russia. What we’re watching is an international mob network with Trump acting more like a crime boss than a leader of a democracy. This is why we are not recognizing our country anymore. The corruption trickles down to all levels, as we’re seeing here in NC. We must push back in every way we can. Everything helps because there are much more of us than them.
