I recently saw the best T-shirt ever worn by a woman at my gym that read: “Critical Thinking: The Other National Deficit”. From what I can tell, MAGA *still* doesn’t see a link between Trump and Epstein. They’re not pissed because Fat Donny is in the Epstein case files, they’re pissed because they were PROMISED a release of the Epstein case files with all the salacious details of the evidence that proves their belief that Democrats are all members of a satanic hemochrome snorting pizza pedo cult. And they’re pissed because Fat Donny ain’t delivering on it. They don’t even care about wondering WHY he’s dragging his feet and trying to make the whole thing go away; they just want their red meat, and it’s being denied them by the guy who promised it to them in the first place. The majority of the Congressional Goobers probably *know* Fat Donny is a prominent figure in the Epstein story, but the true believers? They didn’t just drink the Kool-Aid, they drowned in it. If you showed them incontrovertible, documented video evidence of Dear Leader having his way with a 13-year-old narrated by God Himself, they’d swear it was fake. This is the 25% of the country that will never break with Tangerine Cthulhu no matter what he does. Which (oddly) is not the same 25% that think he’s handling the Epstein story “just fine”. They’ve mastered the art of Doublethink, perhaps because they never really mastered the art of “Think” to begin with.
I always wondered how MAGA avoided realizing there was a Trump/Epstein link. That Trump&Epstein parted ways was probably not a decision made out of a sense of morality. I think MAGA thought if Trump was willing to release the Epstein files, he must be innocent. This despite all of the credible images Trump with Epstein&accusations&a conviction for sexual assault. The flip on the files by Trump, flipped MAGA’s POV.
I have another point as well. This may seem goofy, but I think the WH release of that Superman image of Trump, that bore no resemblance to the elderly, obese loon was startling.
Before, they were willing to give him some space on personal images, but that image reflected a complete break from reality.
Re the superman image, it was an easy sell to maga fundamentalist evangelicals anyway. They believe a magic man in the sky can and does control things here on earth, that the holy trinity are all one person, and that jesus was white.

Never forget the other players in this movement. They saw what DT was and realized they could use him for their schemes. Heritage Foundation, Murdoch, Russia, right-wing radio, internet, and TV - - it became a concerted effort paid for by people like the Koch brothers and Leonard Leo (or whoever bankrolls him). They spent years building the DT Machine while we were busy trying to make voters care enough to vote in candidates who could make life better for normal people.
If you’re right and some MAGA promoters do crawl back into their holes, it could lead to a Blue Swell, if not a Blue Wave, election in 2026 and enough of a power shift to win the “Repeal” fight James Carville is urging Democrats to engage.
Good call, Thomas. I don’t think this will end Trump’s grip on his base, either, but it should cause a total fracturing of MAGA when he leaves the scene, if not before. I have no idea if normal people can build a solid coalition to clean up the mess.
I think normal people can and are bulding that coalition, and its starting as the Resistance, which is alive and well. I have been to 9 protests this year. Mostly Guilford county. The average age was 65 or older, white predominantly, looked like farmers, teachers, truck drivers, office workers, factory workers, and professional folks. Everyone should find a local group and start resisting, It usually makes you feel better. I know it rejuvenates me!
