Great column, Tom, and especially relevant with the attention from mayor press on rural/urban divide. I will be watching Anderson Clayton closely; I'm already inspired. I have two granddaughters on the Hill and the optimism of our youth abounds.

Excellent column! If Josh Stein can win 53% of the vote for NC governor against the imbecile Mark Robinson, Biden is likely to win the state on Stein's coattails. Ticket-splitting ain't what it used to be in NC. I was surprised in 2020 when Roy Cooper won only 51.52% against Dan Forest, a doofus opponent, who somehow got 47%. Your turnout analysis explains it -- Trump's coattails. He won with 49.%. It's hard to imagine Robinson, a much bigger doofus, winning more than 45% of the vote. He can drag Trump down. It's hard to imagine Haley voters turning out for Robinson and a felonious Trump.
