Tangerine Caligula has pushed this strongman act too far. He’s bled the treasury and left the country, and others besides, carrying the weight of his choices. The damage is real and the cost is heavy. This has to stop.
I couldn’t agree more about them both. I believe Tillis has this new found courage so he can make a run for governor in 2028. I’m not sure the base would go along 100% but I think by doing this he believes he can attract independents
Cassidy’s voter % in this primary is very comparable to what Nikki Haley was winning in the 2024 GOP primaries head-to-head with Trump, 20-25%. That is all that is left of the pre Trump GOP. Why Thom Tillis and Dr. Cassidy (and Mike Pence and Mitt Romney and Susan Collins) can’t figure that out is beyond me.
Their colleague, Lindsey Graham, predicted that Trump would ruin the Republican Party and they would deserve it. Seems he was right. Maybe he’ll be next.
I think the evidence would say that "populism" didn't "usurp" the Republican Party. It was always there, it just found a louder voice when Trump came along. Cassidy's drubbing in his primary tells us that. Louisiana didn't "turn MAGA"; MAGA just never had a name before. Trump didn't create it -- Trump isn't capable of "creating" *anything* -- he just put his name on it and said he built it. Just like he does everything else. But like everything else he supposedly builds, MAGA will collapse in a cloud of cheap materials, unpaid contractors and shoddy construction all designed to hand Donny more money he can waste.
Before MAGA it was George Wallace. He was a Southern Democrat who couldn't get the nomination, ran as an Independent, but defined the anti-Federal government and racist doctrine that has consumed the Republican Party.
Sad stories, both. Cassidy more than Tillis, at least after Jan. 20, 2025.
The silver lining from all this is that Republicans who think they have a future will live even more in fear of Trump's retribution until November. They'll embrace him more closely as he unravels further. Some of the newly gerrymandered districts will be in play and will fall to Democrats if they run even moderately competent campaigns.
Tillis never risked a thing of value. Now that he has nothing to lose, suddenly he grows a spine? Pfft, spare me.
Thank you. Courage to do what's right when you're on the road to irrelevance and with little to lose doesn't seem like real courage.
Give a little grace to those who voted for conviction from impeachment. Cassidy did, Tillis did not.

he will never be elected again unless he runs as independent. maga 🤮 nurses grudges.

Senator Murkowski is struggling with doing the right thing too. Wish she would just break with the party and become an independent.
So right about Tillis . His conscience awoke too late

Tillis has talked a good game about Trump, but he seldom, if ever, has voted in a way that truly discomfits Trump.
