Yep! Of course, that really has been their MO since they felt bad about pushing out Nixon.

For anyone who wants to help NC in the midterms by writing postcards, check out Postcards to Swing states.

I received an email from the postcard team at Postcards to Swing States⬇️

We still need a bit more help to complete our final batch of News Boosting Postcards to combat disinformation and make sure voters in Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and North Carolina learn how harmful the Trump/GOP agenda is for them. These states have very competitive Senate elections this November. For these final News Boosting cards, you can mail them anytime in May, even though the instructions say April 27.

[Note: I am writing postcards for this round and the headline on this postcard is: "Tarriffs have cost American Households $1,000. Is more inflation ahead?" This is probably the most impactful of the five rounds ofnews boosting postcards, so it would be great if they could all be written!]

They also announced⬇️

We'll begin sign-ups on April 28 for our Get Out the Vote postcards for the November 2026 midterm elections. Our initial states include Alaska, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. We'll start sign-ups for competitive US House races in June. All the mailing dates for these programs are in October.

Join us on Tues. May 12 on YouTube Live at 8pm ET / 5pm PT to learn about our Get Out the Vote postcard program for the 2026 midterms. We're also excited to share the results of our research measuring the effectiveness of our innovative News Boosting postcards!

Great article. He did bring down another Rep. oh and Swalwell used to be a republican. At least that’s what I’m hearing from California.

I just subscribed to you. And I just published something on the topic too.

Would love to know your thoughts.

The Republicans have undermined our education systems so the masses don’t get critical thinking I.

Typos…. Critical thinking skills.

For the record, Donald Trump was convicted of sexual assault in a court of law. That goes far beyond “dubious” or “liable.”

Since trump is mortal we will be rid of him someday probably sooner than later. But what about the 30-40% of maga who supported him? They’re certainly not going to change when he’s gone. We’ve got a huge problem in the US with the number of people who are willfully ignorant and full of hate. What will it take for these people to change?!

No, he was never convicted of sexual assault. He was found liable in civil trial.

Want to hear a really good one? Apparently Madison Cawthorn will be running -again-for a seat from Florida. Don’t remember which district but if he should succeed, it would illustrate your point one more time.

OMG! I'm in NC and he is still a blot on the state.

Chuck Edwards who followed Cawthorn in NC-11 has a serious Democratic opponent in Jamie Ager. Cook Political Report rates the seat as "Likely Republican" - it's the only one of the gerrymandered GOP seats in NC not rated as "Solid".

It's all so maddening. Republicans really do suck, and they will try to win at any cost, even if that cost is the destruction of America.

I am almost always impressed by your column. You come across as intelligent, thoughtful, and well informed about the highs and lows of North Carolina politics. But this last one was a bit of a bummer.

I keep searching for reasons to feel hopeful about our democracy. It looks like you have joined others who have pretty much given up. I’m very worried for our children and our grandchildren.

⬆️"I keep searching for reasons to feel hopeful about our democracy."

One thing that makes me hopeful is the number of No Kings events that were recently held in what is considered very red areas!

I participate in weekly pop-up protests and the responses have shifted over time - we get much more enthusiastic responses from pro-democracy motorists and pedestrians and while we still get F-bombs and middle fingers, the number of people yelling "I love Trump!" has diminished substantially.

Now THIS is encouraging, on-the-ground research!

It is hard to be hopeful when everything he stated is true. The truth needs to be told, stated loudly and often. Everyone needs to hear it.
