Don’t be intimidated. Know the rules and vote

The Utah Supreme Court expansion example is a perfect case study in institutional capture when existing checks fail. NC's evolution from gerrymandering lab to national template shows how quickly local erosion scales. I've seen firsthand how state-level court composition changes can flip decades of precedent overnight. Voter turnout matters obviously, but election observation training and legal fund support create compounding effects that alot of people overlook.

Such a good column. Turn out. Turn out. Turn out. Trying to counteract the well-meaning but self-defeating posts on social media about the midterms being cancelled is important work. Yes, we need to support attorneys like Marc Elias who are working overtime to protect the ballot box. We also need to get very practical here in North Carolina. I work with Team Up NC to maintain Demcractic seats in the NC General Assembly, and flip others from red to blue. These are races that can be won or lost by just a few hundred votes. Why are we gerrymandered so terribly? Time to really put a buffer between Josh Stein and the GOP majority so his vetos can be upheld. And it's time to flip the House and Senate here blue. Will it happen in 2026? No. But we need to build toward that. That happens when you knock on doors and call and talk with voters.
