"he complained that immigrants to the US come from “shithole” countries and wondered why we couldn’t have some from Norway or Sweden. Well, people from Norway and Sweden now consider the US an asshole country and don’t want to visit here, much less emigrate"...Thomas, this is poetic, good analysis
Everything Trump touches dies. Why should tourism be any different? Considering how important that industry is in his adoptive state, you’d think he would care but he obviously doesn’t. Maybe this is why Miami just elected their first Democratic mayor in 30 years.
Trump has not only killed tourism, foreign students, who used to pay maximum tuition, no longer want to study here, scientists no longer want to do research here and skilled workers are looking to Canada, Europe, even China. Only career criminals, corrupt oligarchs and mobsters want to come here now.
It is understandable that citizens from Canada, Europe, and other nations would hesitate to engage with the United States under current circumstances.
Trump’s policies have disrupted foreign economies, his rhetoric has undermined diplomatic goodwill, and the resulting damage to international relations may prove lasting.
For many, the prospect of visiting a country where personal security feels uncertain—where individuals fear arbitrary detention or displacement—makes tourism and investment unattractive. While his tenure will eventually end, the consequences of his actions may not be easily reversed.
Trust, once eroded, is difficult to restore, and many foreign governments now view the United States with caution, wary that such instability could recur.
I don't think we have seen the full impact yet of Trump on tourism.
Many snow birds from Canada either own property in the US (in states like FL and AZ) or they book long-term rentals months (if not a full year) in advance. The impact of Trumps comments about making Canada the 51st state were muted because the snowbirds already had sunk costs and couldn't easily cancel their 2025 plans on short notice.
I have seen articles on tourism websites that quote FL realtors saying that the Canadians contacting them are looking to sell their FL properties not buy something in the US. And many of those that don't own property have cancelled their long standing rentals for the 2025 -2026 winter season.
That impacts not just the landlords but also every single business in towns popular with Canadian tourists - restaurants, grocery stores, movie theaters etc.
Just got back from Tampa and the rental car counter was dead. The rep said business was down significantly and that Thanksgiving was hit especially hard. She said it was the Canadians not coming that were the biggest impact.
Donnycon is driving the entire US “brand” into the
sh!tter. People around the globe think we’ve turned into a bunch of destructive, racist lunatics. It will take many years to restore trust from our allies and people around the globe. If I lived overseas, I would never send my child here.
As I noted in another place, it seems like someone in the WH (Wiles, Miller, both?) is convinced Democrats will win the midterms. So they need to flood the zone over the next 10 months with so much … stuff … that the next Congress won’t be able to clean the pipes.

Trump does not know when to keep his mouth closed. Having visited Europe several times, many people I've encountered considerTrump a vulgar man.
