Perhaps as important and more local, note the announcement this morning (past coupl'a hours) that the DCCC has added our 9th District to their "Districts in Play". :-) There are only 3 districts in NC that are on it at the moment- Jamie Ager (red to blue NC11), Raymond Smith (NC3) and now Richard Ojeda just down the road from Carrboro. Sure be interested in your thoughts? :-)

People in this district haven't forgotten Rep Hudson's advice to Republican Congressmen last year to avoid doing events in their districts. Ultimate Trumpy insider. This 4th of July he walked the Pinehurst parade--first time most of us have seen him in a long while--and the reception was decidedly muted. Tough challenge in the gerrymandered 9th, but Major Ojeda could pull it off with military and suburban Greensboro backing.
I sat in the last public appearance Hudson did with constituents, early on in the second Trump administration. It wasn't even in person - it was a telephone-based "town hall". It was around the time that DOGE was on the rampage and Trump was cancelling grants to universities and creating all kinds of havoc with the markets.
They obviously pre-screened the questions, but the callers grew increasingly angry as Hudson didn't directly answer any questions and just very obviously read GOP talking points, sometimes verbatim, from the GOP's website.
It was seriously the most pathetic political event I'd witnessed in many years.
My only regret is that I won't get to vote against Chuck Edwards in November. The Ethics Committee report makes my skin crawl. If these are the "mountain values" he likes to talk about, I want none of it. Guess his plan to sell the McDonald's franchises to focus on his work in Congress isn't working out too well.
They’ll pick someone worse. And there really is no floor for depravity among the GOP. This is the same district who sent Mark Meadows, Madison Cawthorne, and, arguably worse, Charles Taylor from the 90s maybe.
The GOP keeps backing broken men. Their current nominee shows the same rot: graft, bungling, and a loud, coarse manner. Those choices do not build anything that lasts. Worse, many cannot see how this hurts their lives. Affordable health care has slipped away. Prices for food, medicine, and fuel bite harder. People pay more and some pay with their lives while loyalty shields a family that profits from the office. Grow up. Do what is right for the country.
Considering how the NCGA screwed over the folks in WNC when they wrote their “Helene Relief” bill that appropriated $0 for any actual *relief*, and the fact that district is STILL trying to recover, I’m not sure how much love any of the legislative reps from that area are gonna get. That was most of the drag holding Chucklehead back in this race, and I’m not seeing it being any better for anybody else with any fingerprints on that debacle.

I live in this heavily gerrymandered district that seems to send only the worst people to congress.
People in this region have NOT forgotten about Helene. It’s heartbreaking how many people are still waiting on relief here.
But beware of all those republican campaign commercials showing Bernie Sanders , Zoran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed. That’s how Republicans roll
