“It was like, North Carolina, it was beautiful, it was apple pie.” Then we elected Republicans, right?”
Except that we didn’t really “elect” republicans. Everyone knows that NC is one of, if not the most, gerrymandered states in the union. NC can barely call itself a democracy.
“Trump also threatened to withhold disaster relief funds for western North Carolina if the state doesn’t elect Whatley.”
This is what we get in NC when republicans are in power: bullying and extortion. I thought there were laws against trying to buy votes for promising something of value that we were already promised in terms of Helene recovery funds.
Trump's attack puts North Carolina Republicans in a bind. If the state is doing well, he's wrong. If the state is failing, they have a lot to answer for. They've held power in Raleigh for more than a decade. They can't take credit for the good and pass off the bad. One way or another, the responsibility is theirs.
Trump and Whatley just created raw footage and social media posts for a pretty compelling ad for the Cooper campaign, ie, "These guys think you're the worst state in the nation. I think you're the best and we can make NC better for everyone."
People who don't think the GOP has turned into a kind of religious apocalyptic cult, need to look at Trump and Whatley's campaign appearance as a reality check.
I read that those in the audience groaned when Trump said he'd take finding away ftom Western NC if Whatley lost. Good job Trump. Way to go campaigning for Roy Cooper. As you said, Thomas, it was a gimme for Jamie Ager too.

Trump & Watley what’s not best for NC. Vote for Cooper 💙💙💙💙
All they have is hate.
Keep talkin’ pal. Many people are saying you need to campaign in NC-11 too!
Oh, so long ago it seems, when Hillary used the right word: DESPICABLE.
The shouting of an deranged bully. You would think that wouldn't be helpful, especally in
western NC. Independents should shutter at the disconnect, meaning rign
ht-leaning voters who vote against anything they think will raise ther taxes.

Whatever ability Trump may have had to read a room (I never understood it, either) is long gone. He's adding gasoline to the fire.
