Thursday’s DNC commitment must be to have Harris finishing her speech before the night’s local news @ 11 Eastern and 10 Central. It was a missed opportunity to have Walz speaking late but would be seriously malpractice to do so for Harris.

I like the point about the DNC being a model of campaigning and entertainment. And while it is spectacle—which can be such a turnoff—so far this event is anything but. Mainly because we have some first rate orators at the microphone and other speakers whom we can believe and not cringe. It’s way past due for some well wrought orations. And the point about not peaking too soon, I do not think we have to fret that. Because what we are seeing, hearing, processing, and feeling is organic—certified and worthy of trust. And the final point about what happens when’s when the tent comes down, we know the assignment. Work it.

Hillary, Barak and Michelle are a tough act to follow, but they've sure got everyone in celebratory mood. This sure feels like conventions of old. The diversity of the crowd should inspire the coalition of Dem voters, especially the Gen Zs.

Great post! Michelle gave the best speech of the second night, I thought. https://youtu.be/YgJBFBwRXvc?si=s4Bki3ZOOKNkFYJ0

I agree that politics follows culture, and also critiqued the cultures of the Republican and Democratic conventions. The GOP convention looked like a country club gathering in, say a small Southern town like Goldsboro, whereas the Democrats look like America in all its diversity. https://jimbuie.substack.com/p/56-years-of-political-conventions

Will a majority of North Carolinians be inspired or frightened by this diverse future? Not sure. If it goes for Harris, I suspect it will do so quite narrowly. Obama only won NC by 14,000 votes in 2008.

It was a great night starting with the roll call which was enjoyable even for this mid 60 year old. The Obamas were awesome. Michelle is just so good at delivering speeches and President Obama is well just as great as ever. Really miss those two.
