It’s not they want to ruin our day, it’s that they want to eliminate people’s rights and freedoms. All people’s. And they are succeeding.

Awhile back I took my soon to be X through uptown Charlotte at 9pm. She was from Alexander County, and thought it would be suicide to do such a thing. Imagine her surprise when she saw mostly white people walking by and plenty of them wasn't at all what she saw on local news, and her local news was the same as Charlottes. Truth is that her County crime rate is higher than Mecks.

When rationality encounters "faith", regardless of any underlying facts, "faith" pretty much comes out on top.

Regrettably the overall literacy rate in the US seems fixed 'round 6th grade; the numeracy level is 'bout the same.

Regardless of formal education, it seems my conservative friends, measurably more than my liberal acquaintances, tend to eschew statistics and science when evaluating public issues.

Ah, our species :-)

The Guardians of Pedophiles (GOP) aren’t just “ruining our day,” they’re trying to ruin our lives by turning the US into a racist, christofascist hellscape. I truly weep for the future.

I wish I could believe there's a hell that they will all burn in, sooner rather than later.

The truth doesn't even enter into the conversation. When you control the entire universe of broadcast media and also control the content of most online media, there is no chance of the getting the actual facts into the general conversation. When Jimmy Kimmel gets censored for a benign, milk toast comment and that fox moron gets nothing for calling for the extermination homeless people. We've got a major problem that's not going to restore my country for decades, if ever.

On a topic unrelated to violent crime but a still important issue, I received an email from Down Home NC about the upcoming Medicaid cuts. Here's in part what they said:

*****

As a result of the Republican's $300 million shotfall for NC Medicaid, the state of NC will cut the rates they pay healthcare providers for Medicaid services starting October 1, 2025.

These scheduled Medicaid rate cuts are bad news for our whole health care system, including patients and providers. The good news is this: NC lawmakers are coming back into session on Monday, September 22. They have the power and the opportunity to pass a budget that fully funds our medicaid system and protects millions of people in our state.

*****

Join a phone bank tomorrow night (9/18) calling fellow North Carolinians to prompt them to in turn call their elected state representatives in the General Assembly with a simple message- we need health care, not cuts!

Registration link: www.mobilize.us/downhomenc/event/831213/

Training will be provided, and there's no experience necessary. The only thing you need is a computer, laptop, or tablet, and a quiet place to make calls.

republicans are evil. Pure evil using made up facts to distort reality. Why aren’t they using that tactic against Utah? If you are a reasonable person, you don’t drink the kool-aid they are serving. If you are maga, you have been brainwashed and believe everything they say. We are headed to a very bad place if we keep politicizing everything!

When a government scorns science, barters influence in shadowed corridors, mismanages crisis with breathtaking ineptitude, turns its military inward against its own citizens, and floods the public square with deliberate falsehoods—this is not mere dysfunction. It is a profound descent that, with "flying banners and beating drums, we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth century, when bigots lit fires to silence the minds that dared to bring intelligence, enlightenment, and culture to the human spirit." Clarence Darrow closing argument in the Scopes "Monkey Trial"

True. Conservative media, especially "Faux" news, brainwashes the chronic viewer. To add to this, a true defender of our Democracy and the 1A , Jimmy Kimmel, has been silenced by the Trump appointed FCC chair. We are at least knee deep in a dictatorship. See Project 2025.

Want-a-be dictators often use fear; labeling cities such as Charlotte as unsafe, despite evidence, tro the contrary, increases public concern. This can boost voter turnout, support strict policies, and distract from issues like economic inequality or poor governance. Moreover, open the door to deploy the military.
