My only quibble with your chess moves is your suggestions for VP. I believe— without pandering — the choice should be a young, aggressive, Black Democrat. Karen Bass comes to mind, as do several others.

But the real need, as I’ve said from my soapbox for decades now, is for Democrats to stop turning the other cheek when attacked. Take the fight to the other side with all the vehemence and outrage the times call for. “We need to quit taking a policy book to a fistfight,” as Marie Arana said in the Washington Post a few days ago.

The media love a good fight. Let’s give ‘em one. And, in doing so, we’ll also be showing voters that Democrats are (at last!) willing to fight for what we stand for.

I believe it’s our best option, whether Harris on the ticket.

If Biden dumps Harris it will be the biggest victory the fascists ever dreamed of, and the soul of our nation will be dead.

To finish what I was saying… I believe it’s our best option, whether Harris remains on the ticket or not.

Ms. Freedman, my apologies. My “lost your mind” comment was directed to my long-time friend and colleague Thomas Mills, not you. Mea culpa.

I think you may have lost your mind, my friend. Drop Harris? Do you still reside in North Carolina? Get real!

Funny. No I live in NC. You do run some risks of taking her off from minority and other women. Everything’s a gamble. That’s why I work in the background

Square, downright. Shift key pieces--on the nail. Forge a ticket worthy. Don't hesitate. Do it a month ago.

While I like much of what you have to say I’m not entirely in agreement with your final solution. Maybe not even much. There are now many potentials for new blood to succeed Biden after this next election. God knows most vps have not faired well, but many people feel Harris is growing into the job and it’s taken a long time for others to emerge.

I can’t foretell the future for Kamala but her prospects for ever ascending to the Presidency will certainly be non existent if they do what you suggest. I do like your other choices

I hear your sentiment and disagree. Harris much better suited as an AG. Biden's Harris choice for VP--in hindsight--not wise. I fear she may have been given the nod for wrong reasons although I have no doubts she's qualified. She's been a drag. As far as the new blood, yes Dem. bench is deep which is why the hell I wonder Biden did not use his wisdom about others being given a chance. I fear his stubborn streak and some arrogance got in his way. Maybe Jill could have helped him see. I do not doubt for a minute his acuity. But he does not have a good look or a good speak. And that's not going to change. Our populace--a large part of it anyway--not astute critically because it's too easy to find a mental groove and just stay there rather than inquire, read and analyze hard stuff, and entertain diverse perspectives. People are lazy. They look at visuals and determine what they like or not. AND most possess limited grasp of our country's history and simply don't care to know it. Never have we ever required a stronger ticket than we do at THIS moment. And right now, quite frankly by my best understanding, we do not have it.

Up to you to stop the perceptions and tout the accomplishments this old man has had. We need to show the drag of the other party and what they will give us. Who would you rather? Trump or Biden? Really!

No. It WAS up to Biden to do this. And he could not Despite efforts. Still cannot. Trump or Biden? Really? Again???????????????????????????????????????????? Only Biden could have used his depth and breadth of experience to read the tea leaves at least a year ago. This could have been an exciting election year. It is not just Biden's fault that it is not. Although...................................Really??????????????????????????? Trump's an empty vessel and always has been. Clueless. We might ask ourselves how the hell we got here? Go back, back, back, back, back. The fault lines post Civil War never addressed. We moved on. And on And on until Jim Crow during our lifetimes. Same unaddressed fault lines. And it has not been long ago--I was ten-years-old when the Civil Rights Act becomes law, 1964. And the EEOC soon on the heels of that. And women still not treated equally. In fact, we are now in a tidal wave backwash with Dobbs Decision and now the slippery slope leads to Alabama's Supremes ruling on IVF. To have even had it come to "Trump or Biden" leaves me weak because we have talent and brains to be tested and used. Could not be more critical. Quite frankly, I'm insulted by this "only" choice when it did not have to come to this.
