A beautiful tribute--both to Lincoln and to the Declaration of Independence. However, that aspirational Declaration is not our governing document, any more than the Articles of Confederation that followed it. Only the Constitution has been our governing document, at least until a felonious conman managed to supersede it. The Declaration's citing of an unnamed "Creator" has led many Americans to stretch that term into a "Christian nation". The Constitution and its First Amendment placed limits on the entanglement of religion and government. Hopefully our people will once again aspire to become a nation that welcomes, feeds and cares for every one of its inhabitants.
Thomas, I needed these words today. The American flags that I hung earlier this week, were taken down today - a day of infamy in my mind. May the words of this Declaration undergird us as we enter a new phase of corruption and defiance of the Rule of Law. I will continue to resist, defy, and vote.
Fantastic! Incredible! You nailed it Thomas. A uniquely dynamic and faithful sharing of our core principals and ideals. We will survive Trump, but he will have set us back greatly w/ his extraordinary narcicism and zero understanding of his duties as our President.
In many ways, I hesitate to use Lincoln’s name in the same sentence as Trump. Lincoln rose from modest beginnings to become a self-made lawyer, while Trump inherited wealth which he managed to lose through bad business judgement. His political life is not much better, impeached twice, conviction of thirty-four felonies involving moral turpitude coupled with the fact he has been reported to have made over 30,000 false or misleading statements during his first presidency. His re-election bid following the Capitol attack and subsequent pardons remain contentious, fueling debate about his eligibility and commitment to law and order. Ironically, his record might disqualify him from serving on his own security detail. Conviction of a felony disqualifies an individual from being appointed to a law enforcement position. Yet, Republicans selected him to represent their party. If you are one of those persons who believe Trump was not convicted, I recommend reading the decision and ask why he filed an appeal. You can’t appeal a decision where there is no conviction! Lincoln was a fully qualified president; Trump is just an individual who managed to get reelected.
Thank you Thomas, for this much needed reminder of what our Founders intended our country to be. It is very difficult to stay grounded in these truths, when all is chaos around us. Mr. Lincoln understood, and I fear what has happened to his Republican Party would kill him anew.

Well put Thomas. But the people have not seen the need to change the government so far.

Happy 4th of July.

Nicely done. Thanks.
