Per the AP, NC will delay publishing voting returns until 8:30pm because workers at a precinct in Halifax County could not get the electronic poll books synchronized for 90 minutes and didn’t use any backup measures to let people vote. So voting is extended an hour at that precinct.

The precincts that closed on time at 7:30 can still report them to the state board of elections; they just won't go public before 8:30. Hopefully that means that there won't be a delay in calling the statewide races or district races outside of Halifax county.

Not really on topic, but Thom Tillis is sure having his moments lately.

Thanks for posting! I'm a long-time NC resident and I'm not sure I've ever seen him this fired up. Where has he been hiding it?

I'm NC born and bred, and lived through some good politicians, and Jesse Helms. For a long time, our Senators were basically a wash -- one from each side, and they'd cancel each other out. Then along came Burr, and after a few cycles as speaker of the NC House, Tillis decided to take his Alec Poster Boy Road Show to DC. He nudged Kay Hagan out in the 2014 midterms after Hagan tried to straddle the mythical "center", and didn't give either side enough to get excited about to overcome what was left of the Tea Party wave. She scored a bit of an own goal going to a fundraiser and missing a "significant" vote, which probably wasn't as significant as the Tillis campaign made it sound (and certainly not as significant as passing a state budget and having the House Speaker off in DC at various fundraisers, but we weren't talking about that). Anyway, I suspect Tillis has found his backbone mainly because he's a short timer and what are they gonna do? Take his committee assignments? He's gonna be gone in November anyway. Because up to now that time he tried to have a principle, it got lonely and ran off. But recently he's become a bit of a gadfly, even though he looked like the Tillis we all know when the OBuBBA bill was being debated and he voiced objections about it -- for very valid reasons, especially if you were a North Carolinian on Medicaid of Obamacare or live dint Western counties... but when such came to shove he voted for it anyway. He also voted to confirm pretty much every appointee Combover Caligula sent to the Senate including Sparkle Pony Hegseth AND Kristi Noem.

Whenever I call to leave a message with his office about the need to impeach this or that Senate-confirmed appointee, I mention the fact that he voted to confirm every since one of them - despite their obvious shortcomings!

Wished to have seen a mention of the 9th - just next to your door :-) Ojeda may well give Hudson the retirement to which he's certainly entitled.

The Major should sail through tomorrow - and emerge into the general this fall with a chest, while not quite what you're reporting 'bout the 4th, still of size to concern our redistricting friends.

Hope to see your thoughts going forward.

I’ve been saying “Don’t sleep on the 9th” for months now. I actually ran into Richard Ojeda at the Dropkick Murphys show in Raleigh on 2/14 and he's the same guy in person you see in his ads and his videos. And he’s been getting name recognition the old fashioned way — knocking on doors, shaking hands and listening to the concerns of the voters. He’s got constituents outreach offices in all corners of the district that he plans to keep in place once he’s in DC as “listening posts”. If he actually does that, he’ll be a fixture for years. I’m actually in the 4th too (if only just) but I’ve been sending him some cash here and there, and like you I feel like he has a real shot. Mostly because he’s putting in the work and making the voters in the district feel *seen and heard*, but it doesn’t hurt that Hudson seems to think he can ride the storm out in his bunker and win on the “R” behind his name. And ironically he might have been able to do that before Berger reshuffled the districts in the name of Lord Trump, but as they sit now the 9th has shrunk to R+8, and the generic congressional ballot is something like D+13 (though that may be nationally, which is of limited value at a state level, but still).

I have encouraged my friends who live in the 4th to vote for Foushee. One is undecided, even though he knows and likes her. He's tempted to "send a message" and vote for Allar. I hope he doesn't.

Davis votes with the GOP anyway so if he loses, bye Felicia!

I hope Berger is relegated to the dust bin of irrelevancy.

Excellent post: clear, informative and - as far as I can tell - unbiased. Thank you!
