Will rank and file Democrats and the Millionaires and Billionaires among them ‘put their money where their mouth is’ and dig deep into their pockets to save our Democracy? Because if not….
The only way good government functions effectively is through general agreement among the governed as to what constitutes fair play. Bad faith manipulation or attempted manipulation in order to gain unfair advantage obviously undermines the whole concept of fair play and, hence, good government as well. This particular case in our state oozes bad faith on its face, and no law degree is necessary to see it. Nonetheless, Judge Myers is owed gratitude for publicly calling it out for what is. Those who would seek to perpetuate such bad faith as this, if anything, confirm their unworthiness of a seat on the NC Supreme Court.
Well said Thomas. I served 14 years as an election official in Durham and Wake counties. The elections directors I worked with are competent and staff was thoroughly trained. It is time for a stronger democratic party and for a more aware group of voters
With their long terms of office and the common indifference of voters to judicial elections, it will require a sustained , big lift in education about and emphasis on judge candidates if the threats are to ever be overcome.
That this case has dragged for long shows those who wanted to wish it away “should” come out from the shadows. But shoulds get us nowhere. That in general it seems many do not care one way or the other continues to perpetuate politics as carnival. This dispatch gives a needed moment of relief and underscores again how speed to destroy or demolish all that is just and worthy does not let up. Readers and responders stay well. Many have such thirst to maim and diminish our state and our nation. Hold the line.
“Writer Andrew Dunn argued that the case could damage the credibility of the GOP by giving credence to the argument that Republicans want to steal elections.“
This assumes facts not in evidence; to wit, that the GOP had any credibility left in the first place. The “hurricane relief” bill passed after Helene knocked our western counties flatter than hammered shit put paid to any vestige of credibility the NC GOP might have had left. The Griffin shenanigans were just polish on a turd.
But here’s the problem: The Republican majority doesn’t CARE that the game is up. They know it, we know it, and they know we know it, and they’re daring us to do something about it. And what I fear is that the “something” will get ugly, because it’s now clear that the ballot box is stolen and the jury box is sold. And if that doesn’t change there won’t be but one box left.
I agree, especially with your last paragraph. 20 years ago, republicans tried shady, behind-the-scenes tactics to win elections. today, they are so up-front with their corruption that I would imagine that when the 2028 elections roll around, they would simply toss out democrat votes for no reason.
Thomas Mills is making us all aware of how important it is to know who we are voting for when it comes to judges. Voters often do not pay attention to the judges who are running for election.
NC will probably become a test case regarding elections.

Thomas, your insights are sharp. Your writing is tight and compelling. Your arguments are sound.
In particular, your constant calling out of the gutless Sen. Thom Tillis is exhilarating.
I humbly suggest you invite Tillis to be a guest on your podcast. It would be great political theater to see demolish his credibility face to face.
I know he will never accept, but your invitation will stand as a daily reminder of his political, ethical and moral cowardace.
Well said! Now show our state officials that we don't want this happening again and sign our petition to pass this law! https://www.change.org/p/support-the-voter-protection-and-reliance-act-hb691?recruiter=1371208549&recruited_by_id=266e7a30-1712-11f0-bb6e-8d1c9965d1d3&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard&utm_medium=copylink
Just in: Griffin Concedes, Tillis says he’ll be a No vote on Martin. One of these things is true, the other… 5:2 that Tillis pulls another Tillis.
Riggs yes! Tillis votes no! In a string of really bad days (about 100 of them), some bright spots!
