I am a senior with pre-existing conditions that would make a bout of Covid more dangerous to me, so I masked religiously long after mask mandates expired. I am vaccinated although my last booster was 8 months ago and likely protectant against a varient that is no longer circulating. I continue to mask in public mostly to avoid getting sick with less serious viruses. (I just finished up with a program that tutors elementary school students in Math. We all know what breeding grounds elementary schools are!) But also in solidarity with several friends who are immune compromised or with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis which neccessitate immune suppressing drugs. Covid would be a death sentence for one elderly friend who almost didn't survive her last bout of pneumonia. (She is one of the reasons I continue to mask).

This law is going to be very troublesome for the people who continue to mask for their own health or the protection of loved ones. Many people who continue to mask get pushback already from their employers. What kind of impact will this have on their ability to earn a living? I'm hoping the disability rights community will fill suit under ADA guidelines to require an exception for health.

FYI, this was a topic in the comments in Jessica Craven's substack yesterday and one of the commentors mentioned a tool that made it easy to send emails to the entire NC legislature. Check it out and consider sending an email objecting to this heavy handed bill:
