i think Cooper wold make a spectacular candidate, and more important a spectacular senator. And this, to me, is the best thing he has going for him. It’s one thing to win the seat, and reclaim it from Republican hands. But what happens after that is SO much more critical. Especially now. We don’t just need a “winner” we need someone who knows how to govern and Cooper has proven himself more than capable of that — even in a hostile environment. None of his 8 years int he Governor’s mansion came with friendly faces in the legislature, and the best it got was a couple o years without a veto-proof majority.

My ONLY worry about Cooper is that hell be 69 by the time the midterms come around. Which means he’ll be 75 at the end of his term. I have to wonder if he even wants to spend his golden years in DC. And I can’t imagine him running for another 6 years after that. But if we can get the kind of quality out of those first 6 years that I think we would, it gives us a chance to build up the bench, and prep somebody as a successor.

On the Republican side… I kinda wish Tim Moore would run. He’d get his clock cleaned, and it would put paid to his political career. Maybe we could dig up George Holding and get hi to primary Moore. His sole contribution to the state political scene was to put an end to the political ambitions of Paul Coble and Renee Elmers. Maybe Moore for thre hat trick?

Don Davis worries me. He votes with Republicans at times. He would be a weak senator in my opinion. We need a solid Democrat.
