Mills replaced a Republican troglodyte and has won the whole state of Maine in 4 consecutive elections now (2 as AG). I’d need to see some evidence for your dismissal. I think she’s been great Bernie Sanders is 5 years older than Mills. It’s his endorsement of Platner that sent the guy’s star rising. Here we see misogyny in its full glory, with a side of ageism. Ugly.

I agree. Were I a Mainer, my vote would be a Mills vote. Platner has scared me from the start but that’s all on Maine’s plate to determine. I’m just glad I’ve got a great choice in Roy Cooper this year.

I lived in Maine a long time but no more so watching from the sidelines with frustration. Maine will determine it but we will all suffer if Collins wins. It’s a similar situation as NCs— 2 term governor running for Senate. You are lucky to have Cooper!

She’s trailing in four consecutive polls by more than 25 points. I don’t think she can make that up in two months.

You may be right about her chances, but not about her long life of distinguished public service and winning statewide elections. She steered Maine out of some hateful waters, including finally expanding Medicaid. Platner has no experience or sign of prior interest in public service. Maine is betting that a white man will beat Mills partly because he has no record and can be imagined as a savior. Of course if he wins the primary I’ll be praying he wins, and then I’ll have to pray that he has the faintest idea of how to do the enormous job he’s been elected to without qualifications.

I think you are wrong on Platner. I think he beats Susan Collins.

Platner sounds more like a GOP candidate when you list all of his negatives. It’s obvious why Collins has a low level of support. People are as tired of her being “concerned” about an issue and voting the wrong way anyhow (like Tillis but not as bad) as they are reactionary centrists.

Completely agree. Let’s get Cooper in

I wasn’t sure about him but did not like the other choices. So far NYC. Has not fallen apart like a lot of the rest of the country and the news is pretty good.

Not sure Platner will pan out. I wouldn’t vote for him. I think Mills can win. Agree with comments on your promotion of misogyny and ageism. Misogyny always works. Ageism should only work if the candidate is out of touch with moving the country forward with democratic principles- healthcare, education, no wars, reconstruction of global markets, etc

Maine has only bad choices.

While in general I tend to agree with your positions I think Platner can win. By the way, where did your stand on Mamdani? How do you rate him so far?

Thomas Mills's avatar

I like Mamdani. I think he’s a very talented politician. I think he’s done a good job and I think he will moderate his views the longer he’s in office because I think he wants to get things done will learn that he needs to bring people along instead of expecting them to follow. i think the grocery store idea will become a boondoggle that fails.
