Thomas, Should Biden step aside, I question if you are right that Kamala Harris would/should replace him as the candidate for president? She is first in line now, but why does that status make it inevitable that she become Biden's successor as the standard-bearer for the party?

Alice, going with someone other than Harris would alienate too many voters. It would be viewed as white men putting down women and people of color. It is the vice president’s job to step in and take over when the president cannot. It is Harris’ job as vp to do that. Putting someone else on tge ticket would be seen as firing Harris because she is a woman of color. If it were her policies or ability in question then we never would have made her VP.
