Yesterday, Kamala Harris conceded the race to Donald Trump. Joe Biden acknowledged him as the winner. So did Barack Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton. Few Democrats are screaming that the election was rigged or stolen. We won’t hear about fake electors. Nobody is going to attack the Capitol or otherwise try to disrupt the transfer of power. President Biden will attend the inauguration of Donald Trump, a respect Trump denied him.
Had Trump lost, he would be claiming that he was wronged. His supporters would be threatening violence and angrily protesting boards of elections. Most Republican politicians would either be questioning the results or sheepishly quiet. The conservative media would be sowing doubts about the legitimacy of the outcome. The GOP would be attacking democracy itself. We’ve already seen that movie and know what the sequel would bring.
Today, those same Republicans are celebrating an election that, just 48 hours ago, they were preparing to contest. They are the same Republicans who, four years ago, told us that Donald Trump would concede peacefully. The same Republicans who, when Trump incited a riot in an attempt to hold power, told us he was unfit to serve. The same Republicans who refused to hold him accountable for his actions. The same ones who told us Trump’s transgressions should be handled by the courts, not Congress. The same ones who then claimed his prosecution was political. The same Republicans who rallied around his candidacy when he decided to run again. The same ones who looked away as Trump the grifter sold Chinese bibles, commemorative coins, and cryptocurrency to his cult-like followers. The same ones who stayed silent throughout the campaign as Trump vowed to prosecute his political enemies and praised authoritarian dictators. The same ones who made excuses for lies about Haitian immigrants and Hurricane relief efforts.
Those are the same Republican leaders and pundits who are now telling us that our democracy is secure and that we will have free and fair elections again.
So, to those Republican mouthpieces, forgive me if I don’t believe you.
You know, don’t forgive me. Just go fuck yourselves. You have shown us who you are.
Here here. I spent yesterday in a fog. Now I am just mad as hell at the ignorance, mysoginy, racism, and general lack of awareness of voters. We will resist Trump until the end.
The real proof of this folly will not begin to come for 12 to 18 months in my opinion..... And in my opinion it probably will shake the very foundations of our democratic ways. I weep for the fate of most of our progeny.
