Thomas Mills is the founder and publisher of PoliticsNC.com, a website of commentary and analysis. Since its beginning in April 2013, PoliticsNC has been a must-read for people following North Carolina politics. Thomas and his posts have been widely referenced in state and national publications.   Before beginning PoliticsNC, Thomas spent twenty-five years as a political and public affairs consultant. He grew up in rural North Carolina in a family where politics dominated much of the conversation. Among his earliest memories is the 1968 Democratic primary, which occurred on his fifth birthday, when, in the one-party South, his father won election to the district court bench and his uncle won election to the state House.   After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he spent several years as a carpenter and social worker. He began working on political campaigns in the early 1990s. Since then, he has worked on political and advocacy campaigns in states across the country. In 2004, he was part of the direct mail team for the Kerry-Edwards campaign and Democratic National Committee, when his firm provided all the direct mail for New Hampshire, the only state to turn from red to blue.   Thomas has overseen political campaigns that range from city council to U. S. Senate. He has worked with numerous professional, trade and nonprofit organizations to help them better communicate with their members and the general public. His work has been recognized with numerous awards including Best Presidential Mail.   Thomas lives with his daughter and son in Carrboro, NC. He also has a daughter and son-in-law who live in Sweden. In his spare time, he does as little as possible.
