The latest poll from PPP is a sight to behold: just about every statewide contest is totally tied. The race for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and State Treasurer are all within a point of each other. There’s also interesting results when it comes to HB 2. Let’s take a look.

Governor
41% McCrory (-1)
41% Cooper (-2)
5% Cecil (+1)

Not much has changed since the last poll from PPP. Both party’s candidates lost support from last month, and the Libertarian has gained slightly. None of the changes are significant, though it does suggest that McCrory’s political obituary has been written too early. This looks more like the ultra-competitive contest that it was before the passage of HB 2.

Lieutenant Governor
38% Forest
38% Coleman

A tie here too. This race will be determined almost entirely by turnout and the coattails from the presidential candidates.

Attorney General
39% Stein
38% Newton

Stein’s 1-point lead over Newton is actually the biggest of any of these four races. Like the Lieutenant Governor race, it will be determined by factors other than the candidates themselves. It should be mentioned that Senator Newton has aligned himself closely with HB 2.

State Treasurer
38% Blue
38% Folwell

Another tied race. Both candidates have their strengths. Turning out the black vote will be critical for Blue.

McCrory Approval
44% Approve (+4)
49% Disapprove (no change)

A big boost in McCrory’s approval rating from last poll is seen here – last month it was only 40%. It’s unknown why he gained or even if he gained, but regardless it’s good news for the governor.

Cooper Favorability
30% Favorable (-7)
33% Unfavorable (+6)

And now some bad news for Mr. Cooper. The negative ads are clearly having an effect here. Last month his favorable rating was 37/27, a good rating for any prospective candidate. Now he’s underwater. Republican groups attacking Cooper should be happy at this result, and will keep pounding.

Miscellaneous Favorable Ratings
HB 2 Repeal 50/38
HB 2 35/44
Legislative Democrats 35/49
Legislative Republicans 32/51
General Assembly 19/53

Note the disparity in opposition to HB 2 and support for its repeal. Only 44% of voters say they’re opposed to the law, but 50% want repeal. Obviously, a lot of voters with no opinion on HB 2 itself have an opinion on whether or not to repeal it.

The bottom line – for well over a month now the Cooper team has been having a victory lap. That may have been premature, as this poll finds the candidates knotted as closely together as they’ve ever been. McCrory’s strength is the economy. The furor over HB 2 has not helped him, but it’s possible the federal government’s entry into the debate has allowed him to recover slightly. That, and negative ads attacking his opponent. This still looks to be the premier gubernatorial race in the country.

Here are Ten reasons that I support Hillary Clinton for President and Kevin Griffin for US Senate in North Carolina. Both are good people with Great Ideas and here are just a few.

Ten reasons to support My Candidates:

1)Mr Griffin and Mrs. Rodham-Clinton both support a Balance Budget Amendment to the Federal Constitution as the center plank in their run for Government.

    2) They both support allowing Nurses to care their License from State to state and not get reaccredited in another state or the District of Columbia. Portability of a Nurses credentials should be National not State Issues. The Commerce clause should already cover this issue but it has not so far.

    3) They both support Tax Exempt Status for Sheriff Department Employee’s and the Sheriff since he is a elected official getting to Keep There Federal Income Taxes.
The Fire Department of Cumberland County Does it’s for their Employees, Call the Fire Marshall at (910)321-6736. The Chief Todd Thurmond might be interested in knowing how good Cumberland County Treats it’s Fire fighters.

    4) They both support having The Private Sector (aka Builders) help to build schools. This happens a lot in Denver and other places out west. It is a great way to lower school cost while building better schools. Builders can sell there homes for more money if their are schools close to were they have a new development. It makes since for all side to work together.

    5) They both support block granting Medicaid back to the Federal Government. The idea is to reverse the program. Currently, the federal government sends the states 65% of the cost of the program while State pays the other 35%. My candidates want the Federal Government to take back administrating the program and have the states send 15% of the cost to the Federal Government. It is a Federal Program, let the Federal Government thru ObamaCare do it. We think they will cover more people at a lower cost.

    6) They both support more interaction between Teachers and Parents thru expanded or revived PTA. We support having Teachers and Law Enforcement Employees (would like Volunteer Fire Fighters support even though this does not help you guys) claiming tax exempt status as workers for Non-profit organizations. It would only cost the federal Government about 80 billion dollars a year to increase the average teachers pay by about 25 to 30%.

    7) They both support Foreign Born Parents of children born in the United states; being allowed to take advantage of current law which states: ” parents of US born citizens will be made Citizens of the United states within three Weeks of Applying for it”
    Reference:
President Barack Obama 2012 ( Exceptance speach at 2008 Democrat Convention) .

No family should be separated, when they want to remain together. It is not in keeping with American Values.

    8) They ALL support a Unified North American Currency. The exchange rate would be 2 peso to 1 American Dollar. The exchange rate has changed since the American Currency is now worth more than it was 2 weeks ago. The President has announced a budget surplus that allows for a more generous exchange rate. Please have your friends in Latin American help get this thru the American Congress.

    9) They ALL support improving the environment by applying old technologies in a new way. When Mr. Kenan-Bruce said, “that placing a Alternator on a Electric car, means that we don’t have to recharge or Electric Cars. The alternator recharges the Alternator recharges the Battery. A electric car is nothing but a engine powered by battery power and not fossil fuel power”, we are forever in his debt for saving the world from fossil fuel dependence. It solves the problem of GREEN HOUSE emissions as well as economic freedom from big oil. Let’s win this election for our children’s future and the environment.

    10) They both support the North American and Euro Trade pact that would help to spur growth between Europe and America. The German people would benefit by having a larger number of people to sell products to (Mikey says Stuff).

Please Call Mr. kevin Griffin at (866) 249-4462 to ask him about his positions on these issues.

Terrifying that the state could incur significant financial losses due to extreme overreach on the part of NCGOP – and the races are all tied. NCGOP seeks centralized control and the truth is nothing but a fiction these days.

NC is a bellwether state. Will the religious right win? I hope not…

I haven’t seen any evidence of Cooper’s folks “having a victory lap”. They don’t impress me as the kind to do too much counting of chickens in May. But I’m sure they have understandably been heartened to watch McCrory step on his ying yang with both feet over the “emergency” legislative session and HB2 and its aftermath.

The Governor has pretty much confirmed many of the negative impressions of himself held by many of the voters he will need to win a second term. There is a significant number of voters who voted for him in 2012 who thought they were getting good old reasonable moderate Mayor Pat. Some of these folks are unhappy with what they actually got. Some are appalled. And that was before his massive bumbling around HB2.

An incumbent governor with an approval/disapproval of -5 in May of the year he is running for reelection can’t be happy. It spells trouble with a capital T. Add an opponent who is well regarded, well funded and who has won multiple statewide elections and one would conclude it would be extraordinarily unwise to place any large bets on McCrory being reelected.

I hope you are correct. McCrory is ruining the environment and the economy. He must go!
